The first time we played Trivialogy Trivia was actually an accident. We had already fallen in love with Track 7 Brewing Company and kept hearing about their restaurant in East Sac, The Other Side. This spot boasted an impressive food menu alongside the brews we couldn’t get enough of. We decided for 7/16/19, our anniversary dinner, we would try it out. Little did we know it would be the beginning of a weekly routine.

As a team of two we told ourselves “Just don’t get last place!” We worked together as we enjoyed The Other Side’s Rotisserie Chicken meal for two along with what has become our favorite (seasonal) dish there, the fried mushrooms. As we argued over answers and scoured our brains for facts long forgotten we barely noticed that we weren’t allowed to check our phones or scroll mindlessly. It was challenging and sparked goofy and thoughtful conversations. We were hooked.

After talking to our host, Jackie, we learned that The Other Side has trivia every Tuesday and that some teams get really into it. We knew we wanted to join the club of regulars and immediately started recruiting for our team. That first night we didn’t get last place, but we definitely needed help. Our team of two became four as soon as we invited our neighbors to play with us and one night when they couldn’t make it everything changed.

Maybe Jackie saw the fear in our eyes as we prepared to take on a trivia night alone, or maybe she sensed she was about to foster an amazing friendship. She suggested we pair up with her fiancé and their friend who were also a group of two that night and we all clicked. We not only have been playing with them since but our friendship and love of trivia has grown. Our group has grown to the point where we even get docked points some weeks for going over the six person limit, but it’s amazing getting together with friends.

Trivia has since taken over our Tuesday and Wednesday nights (at Woodlake Tavern on Wednesdays) and we have attended a couple Trivia Nights at King Cong Brewing Company for both Thursdays and a special birthday trivia party. We’re even talking about trying out Sundays at Stoney’s, and it all started that one night at The Other Side.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to meet new people, have good  food and drinks and some friendly competition these trivia nights are  for you. The best part is they’re all over Sacramento and there is  guaranteed to be one that fits your schedule.

Check out the Trivialogy Website for the full list of restaurants that participate and when and make sure to say “Hi” if you’re at one of our haunts.
